Poet and journalist Hayat Mahmud Manik, former student leader Palash Kanti Nag, AH Karim Sarkar, publisher and editor of Alor Sangbad in Pirganj, Rangpur, Adar Rahman, president of Rangpur Photo Journalists Association and photographer of Kaler Kanth, Ashraful Alam Apan, organizing secretary of Badarganj Press Club. Knowing that there is a risk to their lives, they remain vocal against the terrorists. The speakers further said that several people, including the two police officers, have filed multiple false cases against the two tortured journalists. They also demanded immediate withdrawal of all false cases from the human chain, improved medical treatment, compensation and security of life and property.
The entire event was hosted by SM Zakir Hossain, convener of Rangpur Metropolitan Tajhat Press Club. Leaders and workers of various political, social and cultural and professional organizations including journalists working in various print, electronics and online news portals of Rangpur were present at the occasion. Khairul Alam Rafique, editor of the daily Mymensingh Pratidin and crime chief of the daily Our Voice, described the police torture in a statement sent to him. He said SI Akram Hossain of Mymensingh DB police was accused of drug dealing, trafficking of women in sex villages and collaborating in terrorist activities. At that time, SI Akram Hossain’s pictures of these crimes were published in newspapers and he got angry. Journalist Khairul Alam Rafique alleges that SI Akram Hossain detained him and tortured him in the name of keeping him in DB custody, which is a gross violation of human rights. Akram had to stay in Mymensingh Central Jail for two long months after being arrested in three conspiratorial cases. After his arrest, he was blindfolded and subjected to unspeakable torture. He was standing opposite the gate of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on November 29, 2016 at 11 pm. Later, he was blindfolded and taken to the newspaper office in Mymensingh Charpara in a black Hayes car. They took away my land purchase documents, Janata Bank check and 4 computers, two mobiles, voter ID card and all family documents. Documents and Janata Bank checks were handed over to the opponent and only 1 computer and a mobile phone were seized. From there he was taken to the remote char area of ​​the old Gudaraghat in the Brahmaputra of Mymensingh. At that time, he tied his eyes and tied his hands behind his back and tortured him.
