Begum Rokeya Pioneer snatched the title of Mayor’s Cup T20 cricket tournament. They defeated Haribhanga Cutters, the team of World Cup winning cricketer Akbar Hossain.

Begum Rokeya Pioneer and Haribhanga Cutters will meet in the final match at Rangpur Cricket Garden at 11 am on Tuesday. After winning the toss, Haribhanga captain Akbar Ali decided to field. Begum Rokeya’s captain Salahuddin Pappu got out with the first ball. Begum Rokeya’s supporters were disappointed to lose the wicket of the man who led the team to the title throughout the tournament. After that Begum Rokeya lost 5 wickets before 10 overs.

As a result of 35 runs from Isha’s bat, the score board reached 109 for 8 wickets at the end of the game. Haribhanga was named to bat with a target of 110 in the second innings. Haribhanga opener Tamim returned to the dressing room with a zero run after 5 balls. Mahi Rahman was dismissed for 6 in the next over. Then World Cup winning cricketer Akbar Ali came and tried to keep the match on his side and lead to victory. Akbar Ali was caught by Sabbir after playing 5 balls in 14 overs.

After that Captain Pappu brought the match under his control with the skill of Begum Rokeya spin bowlers. Haribhanga needed 3 runs in 19 overs with 5 balls to spare. Haribhanga scored 108 runs with one run in the last ball. After saving the last ball from the boundary, the cricketers and supporters of Begum Rokeya Pioneer were overjoyed. The cricket garden was filled with the joy and cheers of thousands of supporters to the beat of musical instruments.

Begum Rokeya Pioneer’s Isha, who scored 35 runs, won the Man of the Match award in the final. Begum Rokeya’s Salahuddin Pappu was selected as the highest run-scoring cricketer in the tournament. Afterwards, City Mayor Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa spoke as the chief guest at the award ceremony. Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan, Rangpur Range DIG Devdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Abdul Alim Mahmud, BCB Director Adv. Anwarul Islam, convener of the tournament steering committee, panel mayor Mahmudur Rahman Titu, former national team cricketer Nasir Hossain, president of Coab Rangpur, general secretary Suhrawardy Shuvo.

Speakers at the event pledged to continue the trend of such events in the coming days to boost the expectations of the spectators and the dormant stadium. At the end, the trophy was handed over between the winners and the contestants of the winning team.
